When animals visit flowers of a plant trying to find their food, they can transfer pollen from the male structure (anthers) to the female structure (stigmata), a process named pollination. Animal pollinators are essential for the reproduction of many plants and ecosystem functioning. The Terrestrial Ecology Laboratory of the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, CSIC-UIB) investigates the pollination interactions between animals and plants in different communities of the Balearics. This web page includes information on more than 7,000 observations of floral visitors in a dynamic and accessible database.
